Age is used as a general guide, however, individual ability and instructor recommendation are also used to determine the best class placement for each student. We encourage you to book a free trial lesson to determine the best class for your student.

Creative Movement I: Age 3 by the start of the term | One Class per week | White leotard/white skirt This magical class combines basic ballet steps, creative movement, and gross motor skills. Designed for preschool age students who are age 3 and turning 4 during the year, children enjoy dancing and moving to music while learning basic ballet vocabulary and improving motor skills and flexibility. Students enjoy themed sessions with imaginative movement, fun and recognizable music, and in-studio performances at the end of each term.

Creative Movement II: Age 4-5 | One Class per week | White leotard/white skirt This magical class combines basic ballet steps, creative movement, and gross motor skills. Designed for students who are age 4 and turning 5 during the year, children enjoy dancing and moving to music while learning basic ballet vocabulary and improving motor skills and flexibility. At this age, students increase their focus and build on the skills learned in Creative Movement I. Students enjoy themed sessions with imaginative movement, fun and recognizable music, and in-studio performances at the end of each term.

Pre Ballet I: Age 5-6/Kindergarten | One Class per week | White leotard/white skirt This class builds on the skills developed in Creative Movement II, with a greater emphasis on preparing the dancer for the study of classical ballet in a fun and engaging classroom setting. Students continue to enjoy the magic of dance through themed sessions and in-studio performances at the end of each term. A jazz dance option is also offered (age 6 and up).

Pre Ballet II: Age 6-7/1st Grade | One Class per week | White leotard/white skirt This class builds on the skills developed in Pre Ballet I, with a greater emphasis on preparing the dancer for the study of classical ballet in a fun and engaging classroom setting. Students continue to enjoy themed sessions and in-studio performances at the end of each term. A jazz dance option is also offered (age 6 and up).

Junior I Track 1: Age 7-11, by placement only | One Class per week | Pink leotard This level is the dancers’ first study of classical ballet, and includes the students’ first experience with barre work. Students gain skill and confidence in technique, placement, and flexibility. This level includes ballet and character dance, as well as a jazz dance option. Character dance presents technique and choreography from national dances and improves a dancer’s rhythm and stage presence. Jazz dance is a fun, energetic dance form that combines the structure of ballet with other styles.

Junior I Track 2: Age 7-11, by placement only | Two Classes per week required | Pink leotard This level adds a second class to the dancers’ schedule, to challenge the students and further develop their training. This level includes ballet and character dance, as well as a jazz dance option. Included in the Junior I-IV curriculum, Character dance presents technique and choreography from national dances and improves a dancer’s rhythm and stage presence. Jazz dance is a fun, eclectic dance form that combines the structure of ballet with other styles. Upbeat and appropriate music accompanies this energetic dance style.

Junior II: By placement only | Two Classes per week required | Light blue leotard Dancers continue to build their skill in technique, placement, terminology, focus, and flexibility. This level includes ballet, character dance, and a jazz dance option.

Junior III: By placement only | Two Classes per week required | Navy blue leotard Dancers further refine their technique and begin the study of pre-pointe, which prepares the dancers’ feet and bodies for pointe work. This level includes ballet, character dance, pre-pointe, and a jazz dance option.

Junior IV: By placement only | Three Classes per week required | Lavender leotard Dancers continue to focus on technique and alignment, while experiencing their first introduction to pointe work, with instructor permission. This level includes ballet, pointe introduction, character dance, and a jazz dance option.

Intermediate I/II/III: By placement only | Three Classes per week required | Inter I Green, Inter II Red, Inter III Purple Dancers refine their technique in ballet, pointe, and jazz dance.

Intermediate IV: By placement only | Four Classes per week required | Purple leotard Dancers focus on obtaining the technique and artistry to progress to the Advanced level. Ballet, pointe, and jazz are included in the dancers’ training.

Advanced: By placement only | Four Classes per week required | Black leotard Dancers focus on obtaining the highest level of technique and artistry in their dancing. Ballet, pointe, and jazz are included in their training.

Adult: Classes are offered in Ballet & Conditioning dance for those with and without previous dance experience.

Additional classes offered at BDA include Contemporary Jazz, Modern Dance, Variations, and Pas de Deux.
